Early last year, I travelled through Cambodia with Bam's family. After two stopovers, one in Darwin and the other in Singapore, we finally arrived in Phnom Penh. I've been to Thailand before and was expecting a similar vibe, but I was so, SO off the mark! I think a mixture of shock, and way too much alcohol made me unwell for most of our week in Cambodia, so I'm really excited at the prospect of going back in February and knowing what to expect. Our first night in Phnom Penh was pretty wild, after no sleep and being in transit for over 24 hours. We started off at the most amazing little Mexican restaurant which you would never be able to find if you didn't know what you were looking for, I think it was called Alley Cats. The owner is an American hippie/60's rock and roll kind of guy, and the food was to die for! The frozen margaritas were okay, too I guess...(they were amazing!) After a stressful, yet hilarious tuk tuk ride, we returned to a bar near our hotel called Elsewhere. Bam's sister has spent a bit of time here so knows the bar guys really well, which I'm certain is why we were getting double the amount of alcohol in our already-potent long island iced tea's! Anyway, long story short, this bar is probably the coolest place I've been, Australia and all! It has beautiful pools with leather beds over them, and the quickest, friendliest service you'll ever experience. It's such a different setting to that just a few metres away on the streets of Phnom Penh-crazy! I'm so excited to go back, hopefully in February-YAY! K x
